A real Christmas atmosphere prevailed on Sunday 12th December in the Salle des Fetes at Roquecor where several standholders presented their Christmas ideas. As well as the Liberté Des Anes stand, animal welfare was represented by Les Amis Des Chats who were kept busy selling hot wine, coffee and wonderful cakes and biscuits. Our donkey stand sold out of Christmas cards and sold clothes, books and fluffy toy donkeys. With coffee and mince pies we raised nearly a hundred euros as well as publicising the charity.
The local schools set up and decorated a large, wonderfully imaginative stand selling decorations and beautifully wrapped cakes and biscuits. The children had obviously worked very hard leading up to this market producing very lovely creations. Pheonix English Christmas cards and wrapping paper were on sale; another stand was set up with white ceramics to be painted with pictures, messages, names or finger prints and later fired to be returned as attractive and original personalised gifts. A brocante stand supplied gift ideas for collectors and a handbag stand selling designer bags in high quality fabrics provided real treats as presents, even (or especially) to oneself! Lacour village association had a stand selling jewellery, cards and, amazingly, Welsh cakes! The village organises many activities and trips to performances, opera in Toulouse for example, and this was an opportunity for the public to take note and join this very lively association. Just next door to the Salle Des Fetes, another Christmas market was being held in the Art Gallery, Grenier Des Artistes. Up the road Artiroc offered for sale locally produced artisans' work. The Café du Centre was open for morning coffee and lunch so all that plus the usual Sunday outdoor market and the Epicerie with fruit and veg outside ensured that Roquecor was the place to be. If you missed it this year, don't miss it next!
