A real Christmas atmosphere prevailed on Sunday 12th December in the Salle des Fetes at Roquecor where several standholders presented their Christmas ideas. As well as the Liberté Des Anes stand, animal welfare was represented by Les Amis Des Chats who were kept busy selling hot wine, coffee and wonderful cakes and biscuits. Our donkey stand sold out of Christmas cards and sold clothes, books and fluffy toy donkeys. With coffee and mince pies we raised nearly a hundred euros as well as publicising the charity.
The local schools set up and decorated a large, wonderfully imaginative stand selling decorations and beautifully wrapped cakes and biscuits. The children had obviously worked very hard leading up to this market producing very lovely creations. Pheonix English Christmas cards and wrapping paper were on sale; another stand was set up with white ceramics to be painted with pictures, messages, names or finger prints and later fired to be returned as attractive and original personalised gifts. A brocante stand supplied gift ideas for collectors and a handbag stand selling designer bags in high quality fabrics provided real treats as presents, even (or especially) to oneself! Lacour village association had a stand selling jewellery, cards and, amazingly, Welsh cakes! The village organises many activities and trips to performances, opera in Toulouse for example, and this was an opportunity for the public to take note and join this very lively association. Just next door to the Salle Des Fetes, another Christmas market was being held in the Art Gallery, Grenier Des Artistes. Up the road Artiroc offered for sale locally produced artisans' work. The Café du Centre was open for morning coffee and lunch so all that plus the usual Sunday outdoor market and the Epicerie with fruit and veg outside ensured that Roquecor was the place to be. If you missed it this year, don't miss it next! Please come along for some Christmas cheer and enjoy mulled wine, mince pies, sausage rolls and other goodies on Wednesday 29th December. We are open at 10.30, and will be meeting the donkeys both close to the house and taking a walk to visit those out in their field shelters. Each and every one has their own story to tell! For directions getting here, contact us. A very warm and convivial evening was spent at Las Razes at Touffailles on Sunday 5th December. Anna Atkinson kindly invited us along to her lovely home to eat and take part in games all in aid of Liberté des Anes. We had a picture quiz to complete, seemed easy enough, all people on our table thought we had the locations identified correctly, but we were mistaken! Then we all had a turn at darts, snooker and a team member finished by pinning the tail on a donkey! After totting up the points, the Shakespeare's Bottom table were the winners. A raffle was held with lots of wonderful prizes and, with the sale of Christmas cards and donkey toys, €500 was raised for the Association. Thanks go to Anna and her husband for a very successful evening and, for most of us, our first Christmas outing.
We're selling our own Christmas cards and we have a great deal on them for you. A pack of five cards costs €3.00 or £2.50. Buy 25 cards and we'll give you an additional five cards free. We'll have stands at two Christmas events this coming week in Roquecor. First on Tuesday the 7th in the late morning, we'll be at the Christmas Expo at Café du Centre. And then on Sunday the 12th, Liberté des Anes are repeating the very successful stand at the village of Roquecor Christmas Market. There'll be books, Christmas cards, mince pies, sweets, cuddly toys, jewellery and bric-a-brac. Well worth visits. Full details on the events page. |
