Curry Lunch - 8 April 2018
We are proposing our next fund raising lunch on Sunday 8th April, so please book to come along after 12 ish ready to
eat around 1 o'clock here at Lavolvene, 82150 Belveze.  0563943847.

Geoff and Martine have kindly offered to cook a chicken korma curry, (there will be some extra spice served separately
for those of you who like it hot!)  This curry was delicious when they cooked it for us last time.
We offer you a tasty menu to include your aperitive, a starter and desert, tea and coffee as usual and as much as you
can eat and drink.  Lorraine will be cooking a vegetarian cottage pie which she says is delicious too.
All this for 17 euros. All these proceeds go towards the costs of keeping the donkeys, mules and ponies here which
include their vets bills, the farrier, loads of hay, straw and bedding and their worming treatments too.

Could I also ask if you have any unwanted Christmas presents to please bring them along to make our raffle a great success.

If you have family visiting over Easter and want to show them the donkeys then please send an e mail for an appointment
and I'd be delighted to welcome you here.

To those supporters who offered to cook but for a later date in the month, don't worry I'll be asking for cooks again !

Thank you and I'm looking forward to seeing you all again.

Jan xx

Who are Liberté des Anes?

PictureFabian, Loic and Elki
Liberté des Anes is a registered charity started at the end of 2009 to ensure the welfare of donkeys in need. They are situated in Belveze (82150) the Tarn-et-Garonne on a refuge of 11 hectares of pasture land dotted with stone barns and wooden field shelters to protect the animals from sun, cold and rain. The tranquil setting is currently home to 26 donkeys, horses and mules, who are cared for by Jan Lemmy, who has worked in animal welfare since 1984.
Many of the donkeys come in directly from the butcher’s yard where they have been taken for premature euthanasia as there is a meat value on all equines in France.

The donkeys often arrive with overgrown, very deformed feet, which are attended to. Left untreated hoof problems affect the donkeys' tendons and eventually cause them extreme pain. Others are slowly recovering from severe injuries. Then there are the cases of badly traumatised donkeys that have been tied up in dark barns – sometimes for years.
Caring for these animals is expensive with high veterinary and farrier fees. Feed and bedding are major on-going costs. In order to meet these expenses, the charity is always engaged in fund-raising.  They hold regular lunches for the charity which they have found to be the most effective way of fund raising with their limited time and, of course, donations, however small, are always welcome.

Want to help?

Join us at one of our fund raising lunches (and meet the donkeys).   If you are inspired to lend a hand occasionally please send an e mail and go along to volunteer; there's a job for everyone.

The refuge also have donkeys and shetland ponies looking for permanent adoption.

Great gift idea!

Can you help with our expenses by giving a virtual gift to a friend or relative on any important event - birthday, anniversary, graduation?

Make a donation as a gift to a friend or a family member.

A bale of hay - only 5 euros

A wormer - just 10 euros

Contribution to a Vet call out fee - 15 euros.

In response to your donation we will send the recipient a card from the donkeys with their thanks. Truly great gifts.

Donkey coffee afternoons

A coffee afternoon fundraiser in aid of Libertedesanes can be great fun and help us raise badly need funds.

Would you be interested in holding one for the donkeys? All you need to do is bake a few cakes, lay on tea and coffee and invite your friends along; charge perhaps 5 euros for as much tea and cake they want and any cakes left over can be sold aswell as bric a brac and books.

We'll come along with donkey toys, etc. to sell.

Get in touch.

Blog benefits the donkeys

TAGlines is a blog with over 500 readers in Tarn, Aveyron and Tarn and Garonne. It's for you to tell other interested readers about what's going on in the area; what is for sale or wanted.

They charge a small fee for businesses to advertise on their site and they are kindly offering to donate their fee to Via Sahel enfants d'Afrique and ... us, Liberté des Anes.

So please get in touch with Val Johnstone to advertise your small business and half your money will go to the benefit of the donkeys.
